A berm planted with junipers seems to flow onto the deck. This is the middle of the deck’s three levels, each each with it’s own seating area.
Steps lead to the shadiest part of the garden, where yellow ligularias and hostas grow. Windows in the living room look out over this shady bower and into the woods beyond. A lotus growing in a submerged pot, lifts wavy-edge leaves above a tiny square pond on the deck.
